Conference on Faith and Science (COFAS) at ASU

The Conference on Faith and Science (COFAS) will take place on Friday evening, March 22, and all day on Saturday, March 23, at ASU Tempe. The conference theme is “Pursuing Science and Christian Faith for Human Flourishing.” University students, professors, clergy, and professionals in STEM are invited to attend.

Keynote speakers are Professors Stephen Barr (University of Delaware), James Buizer (University of Arizona), Greg Cootsona (California State University at Chico), Georgia Dunston (Howard University), Fr. Paul Gabor (University of Arizona), Philip Kurian (Howard University), Jonathan Lunine (Cornell), Don Page (University of Alberta), Leslie Wickman (California Baptist University), and Everett Worthington (Virginia Commonwealth University).

COFAS is your opportunity to engage with Christians in the fields of:
(1) Biological, Biomedical, and Health Sciences
(2) Engineering and Technology
(3) Environmental Sciences and Sustainability
(4) Historical, Philosophical, and Theological Studies of Faith and Science
(5) Physical and Molecular Sciences / Astronomy and Cosmology
(6) Psychological, Behavioral, and Social Sciences.

Professor Georgia Dunston, the Founding Director of the National Human Genome Center at Howard University in Washington, D.C., will be a featured speaker for the Veritas Forum at Arizona State University on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. in Neeb Hall (920 S. Forest Mall, Tempe). Stanford Neuroscience Professor William Newsome to visit ASU on February 8-9, 2018

The Arizona Center for Christian Studies is bringing Stanford University Neuroscience Professor William Newsome to speak at Arizona State University on February 8-9, 2018. Professor Newsome is Director of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute and co-leader of the BRAIN Initiative of the National Institutes of Health. He will speak at a Veritas Forum at ASU on Feb. 8, and in academic meetings at ASU on Feb. 9. Funding for this visit is provided by the STEAM Project of Fuller Seminary. See Ravi Zacharias in Arizona!

Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale will speak on “Jesus Among Secular Gods” on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., in the Memorial Union at ASU’s Tempe campus.  The event is free, but seating is limited to ASU students, faculty, and staff with current I.D.  So, to insure everyone can still watch Ravi and Vince live — and text in questions, too — there will be a livestream video to all ASU campuses, other colleges and universities in Arizona, such as Grand Canyon University, and to numerous churches around the state.  For an updated list of livestream viewing sites, go to www.RaviAZ.org.  Please note that the livestream video will be shown at these sites only and will not be available for private viewing.

Has Science Buried God?

John Lennox 1Dr. John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University, spoke on the question “Has Science Buried God?” at a Veritas Forum on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tempe campus of Arizona State University. The talk, followed by Q&A, was in Armstrong Hall of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law (1100 S. McAllister Ave., Tempe; see www.asu.edu/tour/tempe/law and map here).  In addition, the talk was shown via video livestream at other ASU campuses and in several local churches. Watch the video here.

Professor Lennox is an internationally renowned speaker on the interface between science, philosophy, and Christianity.   “Has Science Buried God?” is the subtitle of his 2007 book, God’s Undertaker, and also the topic of his historic debate with Oxford Professor Richard Dawkins in 2008 at the Oxford Museum of Natural History (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0UIbd0eLxw). Professor Mary Poplin School of Educational Studies Claremont Graduate University

Professor Poplin (Ph.D., Univ. of Texas) joined Claremont in 1985 and was Dean in 2000-4. Her Summit on Accountability and Social Justice addressed closing the achievement gap between rich and poor and between racial and ethnic groups. She has authored “Voices from the Inside: A Report on Schooling from Inside the Classroom.” Recently, she has begun to work on the application of the intel-lectual, social, and psychological principles of the Judeo-Christian worldview as they apply to higher education. Poplin has published two books: Is Reality Secular? Testing the Assumptions of Four Global Worldviews and Finding Calcutta: What Mother Teresa Taught Me about Meaningful Work and Service.
